Nursery Schools

What's the difference between nursery and preschool?
Preschools usually work around a formal curriculum and trained teachers - making them a little more expensive! Nursery schools are usually a more relaxed learning environment and more flexible enrolment terms. They are also cheaper and vary greatly.

What age is a preschooler? Ages up to 4 is considered preschooler with toddlers are 1 - 3 year old bracket. Basically 4-year-old are not 'toddling' around any more and so are no longer toddlers!

What does preschool mean? A preschool, or nursery school, is a pre-primary school, or play school for early childhood education. Preschool is for children before they begin compulsory education at primary school.

Is Pre K considered preschool? Pre K schools are pre-kindergartens.

Little Willows Day Nursery

Powlett Rd, Bath BA2 6QH, UK – 01225 332296

I looked at over 15 nurseries before I found this hidden gem! Our daughter wanted to get down and play straight away and for us we knew straight away this was the nursery for her. I love the fact all the children play together in the garden, means all the children mix with different age ranges. As a nursery they cant do enough to make sure your happy as parents and that your child is happy in their environment. Their amazingly flexible if you need put your child in extra. Id recommend this nursery over and over again! Wonderful staff= happy children and as parents that's all we wanted was for our daughter to be happy while we work to provide for our family. She's been going here now since she was a year old.

Fantastic nursery! Our son has been attending for 2 years since he was a baby and he absolutely loves it, like a home from home. The staff are all lovely and our boy is very fond of them. They have played an integral role in his development in so many ways for which I am very grateful. My husband and I both work shifts and they are the only nursery which could accommodate for the long hours whilst being extremely flexible. We can't recommend Little Willows highly enough and look forward to enrolling our new baby boy next year.

Combe Park Pre-School

16 Combe Park, Bath BA1 3NP, UK – 01225 332088

Fantastic Pre-School. Both of my daughters attended Combe Park Pre-School and they absolutely loved going there. Looking back it was a really special time, their 1st experience of education was in a homely setting with amazing staff. They gained confidence and independence and we really felt they were prepared for school by the time they had to go. We would thoroughly recommend Combe Park Pre School to any parent with young children.

After School Care

Green Shoots Pre-School

Bruton Community Hall, Bruton Avenue,, Bath BA2 4QJ, UK – 07712 617336

Quickly want to put in words my upmost praise and credit to Greenshoots Preschool. So much more than a childcare organisation. It's all about the people! A small but perfectly formed staff of caring, fun-loving, loyal, ambitious men and women growing our little'uns three days a week into caring, confident individuals.

My son stayed in the Green Shoots when he was 2-4. He enjoyed the time there very much. The staffs are friendly and give a lot of encouragements to my son. The food is fantastic and my son always finishes the whole plate. The children in the nursery are generally well behaved. I would recommend this school to other parents.

Curtain Up Theatre School Ltd

Combe Hay Ln, Odd Down, Bath BA2 8PA, UK – 01225 307939

We are so grateful to Curtain Up, they have been amazing for our daughter. She loves to perform and there are so many opportunities and dedicated staff at Curtain Up allowing her to develop her strengths and keep her confidence high.

Over the last 12 years, Curtain up has given me the experience that no over theatre school would be able to give me. It given me the best opportunities I could ever have from doing LAMDA exams to putting on full scaled musical productions like Les Miserables which I had the pleasure to do twice with Curtain Up, which were both incredible experiences. Another thing about Curtain Up that they help build your confidence and helps you believe in yourself as an actor. So if your child is interested in dancing, singing, and acting and wants to have future in musical theatre and the performing arts, I definitely recommend Curtain Up as being the number one theatre school to go to. My Les Miserables Summer School experience was incredible and it was the best way to finish my time with Curtain Up.

Beechen Cliff School

Kipling Ave, Bath BA2 4RE, UK – 01225 480466

I moved here for sixth form from a local private school. I must say I am very impressed by the staff, including all lower school staff, this is a very good school. The lads in the lower school treat each other very respectfully (mostly), which is really quite uncommon for an all boys school. I'm particularly impressed by the sixth form team, they do a very good job at running the sixth form, they treat every sixth former like adults; they are always giving you loads of opportunities; they are very good at sorting out any problems that arise; and they are very supportive in just about every way. They also really make sure that you have the best possible UCAS application/apprenticeship, for example they very regularly get external speakers to come in and give presentations about many different things (so there's always something for everyone) - very good to talk about on your personal statement. Teaching quality is also brilliant. Everyone, and most importantly the students, are very respectful and polite to one another, you really do get a good sense of friendly competitiveness and ambition throughout the premises. Can't recommend enough; this really is an exceptional school. If you are looking for a sixth form (or a secondary school for your son), definitely go here. Would give 6 stars if I could.

The school has really made a lot of progress in the past 7 years, and I'm sure that it will continue to do so in the coming years. The majority of the staff are very caring and committed to their students, and the sixth form team especially are deserving of recognition. They've really helped me grow as a person over the past 2 years and have made a solid impact on my life. The boarding house is also unlike any I've seen, with the sense of a real family as soon as you step in, with boys from different years getting along in a manner that's very uncommon in an all boys school. I would recommend it to anyone. There will always be a few bad stories about schools that shine a very negative light, but with beechen its a handful of the students that bring down the reputation, not the staff themselves.

Bath Academy of Media MakeUp Ltd

Christ Church Mews, Julian Rd, Bath BA1 2RH, UK – 01225 331315

Truely amazing experience on the fashion and catwalk makeup course! Lovely staff and amazing teachers! Can't wait to start my career in the industry ❤

I did the course at the beginning of this year, it was the best 15 weeks. You learn everything that you need to know to get you started in the industry in each module, and also very exciting and fun. All the tutors are so lovely and helpful and the director Melanie Crump is the cherry on top! I recommend it highly and would do it all over again if I could.

Demuths Cookery School

6 Terrace Walk, Bath BA1 1LN, UK – 01225 427938

I've been on several courses at Demuths Cookery School, including Fast & Delicious, Gujarati Thali, and their cookery holiday in Southern France. Obviously I keep going back for a reason. Great teaching and inspiring recipes, all using plant-based ingredients. Also, the cookery school kitchen is a real pleasure to work in. Lots of space and great lighting, and a lovely view of Bath which is a bonus.

I've done a number of these courses - mostly the full day and one evening. I've always loved every minute despite my natural incompetence at cookery! When I became a vegetarian I didn't have a clue how to prepare my own tasty nutritious food. I have always come away from the classes more confident in my abilities and with recipes I can use regularly, Check the courses out on the website... whatever food you like there will be a course for it...

Language Schools

Kaplan International English

5 Trim Street, Bath BA1 1HB, UK – 01225 448840

My experience in Kaplan International Bath was probably the best experience i’ve made in my life! I’ve met so many people from all over the world! The teachers are lovely and they help you improve your english in a short amount of time! Also the social activity programme that the school offers is amazing! Thank you Kaplan Bath!

Great school and great people!

Languages United

66 Walcot St, Bath BA1 5BD, UK – 01225 580058

Why the Languages United is one of the best language schools? Because it was much more than a school for me. I think I do not need to depict the city of Bath: it is amazing! (I can say awesome, but be careful with this world in England and try not to overuse - I learned it in this school. ;-) ) I really liked the open-minded, tolerant ideology of the school. There were students from different continents and states with different cultural and religious backgrounds, but it was not any problem in the school, our teachers were professionals to manage this lovely diversity. We had many conversations about the cultures, which were good occasions to get acquainted with other cultures, and to talk about ours. We all felt that we became richer because of this cultural diversity. The staff (including the interns) of the school is not only professional, but in the same time very friendly. It was a privilege to meet them every day. My group was mostly small, but very friendly and hardworking. We helped each other to improve our language skills. We met after the school, we went together to the restaurants, and made common tourist-trips in the outskirts of Bath. Some of them became real friend, and we will keep in touch after we went home. Last but not least, about my teachers. I had four very different teachers, and everyone was a master in her special field. We had strict grammar-lessons and animated conversations too. We had good traditions like Foody-Friday. We could learn more than language: we learned a lot about the English culture and the everyday life, about each other, about ourselves, about the humanity. My English is not good enough yet to tell how grateful I am to them. Thank you for all! Zoltan from Hungary

My experience in Bath has been one of the best in my life! Not just because of the amazing city where I lived but also because of the place I chose for my internship. It has been a remarkable experience and I really enjoyed my time with you. I would like to give a special thanks to all the team, you made a difference in my life and you will always have a place in my heart. I met a lot of interesting people from all around the world and I improved my English. I really recommend Languages United for everyone that wants to learn a lot and also have a great time!
